Navigating the Bureaucratic Maze: Setting up Online Access at Salvadorean Banks
January 11 the 2023
As I walked into yet another bank, I couldn't help but feel a sense of déjà vu. I had been to countless banks over the past few weeks, trying to set up online access for my company's account. But this time, things were different. This bank had a different policy - I was informed that I would have to go through a full-on interview before I could set up online access.
I sat down in the bank's waiting area, feeling a mix of frustration and confusion. I had been there for 20 minutes already and was told that the whole process could take up to two hours. I couldn't believe it - why did it have to be such a big production just to set up online access?
As I waited for my turn, I started to notice that everyone around me seemed to be going through the same process. Some looked equally as perplexed as I felt, others resigned to their fate. But no one seemed pleased with the requirement.
Finally, it was my turn. I sat down with the banker, ready to answer any question they had. But to my surprise, the questions were not as detailed as I expected. However, every signature I put down had to be accompanied with my company seal, which was just a rubber stamp. I couldn't help but chuckle at the absurdity of it all.
After what felt like an eternity, the process was finally over and I left the bank. I couldn't shake off the feeling of frustration, I couldn't help but wonder why it had to be so difficult and time-consuming to set up online access. But at least it was over, and I could finally move on.
